Fun Fall Festivities

When it comes to the change of seasons, I’m kind of a huge dork.  I absolutely love enjoying what each and every season has to offer.  So, naturally I’m very excited about the start of fall.

Being that my wonderful husband knows how much I enjoy seasonal activities, he took me apple picking at Stepp’s Orchard in Hendersonville, North Carolina this past weekend.

We went there last year as well (and I bonded with an adorable cow), and I’m hoping that it becomes an annual tradition.

Even though the weather was pretty crisp that day, it was still a lot of fun.  Plus, the chilly weather made it authentically fall.   It would have felt kind of weird picking apples in 90 degree temperatures!

After loading up on apples and sweet potatoes (yay for seasonal produce!) along with some pumpkin butter and preserves, we headed to a bed and breakfast called Waverly Inn.

It was seriously the cutest place ever.  The rooms were so cozy and quaint and were equipped with all the comforts of home.

Michael questioned my sanity when I began taking photos in the bathroom, but I couldn’t help it.  I mean, they put a rubber ducky in the room and had pretty soaps!

There was a cocktail hour on Saturday evening, and Michael and I were able to visit with Dianne, the owner of the Inn, and some of the other guests.  After dinner in town, we even got to borrow a movie from the Inn’s collection and make popcorn to bring up to our room.  You know that I loved that part!

Breakfast at Waverly Inn on Sunday morning was one of the highlights.  We both ordered eggs and whole grain toast and split the whole grain pancakes.

Give me some apple picking, popcorn, and a good breakfast, and I’m a happy girl!

Of course, the very best part was spending some quality time with my husband.

We’re so fortunate to live so close to the mountains, and after this weekend, I feel refreshed, energized, and renewed.  It must be from that fresh mountain air!

Now that I have a ton of apples, I’ll be making some applesauce, apple crisps, and baked apples in the coming weeks. Get ready for it! ;)

What is your favorite fall activity?  Aside from apple-picking, I love fall decorations (as you can tell by looking at my Pinterest board).  And it goes without saying that I’m kind of obsessed with pumpkin.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

  1. Looks like a great getaway! Let me know if you come up with some good apple recipes. I have mainly been eating through my picked stash “straight up”. I really should do some baking with them!

I hope that you make it to a bed and breakfast soon! It is such a wonderful experience. Let me know if you’re interested in traveling to a particular city or state. When we checked out of the hotel, they have us a guide of the best B&Bs in the country, so I can give you some suggestions. :)

  4. What a great weekend escape. We went to a Wine Event on Saturday and then had our own Oktoberfest Feast last night. We are planning an apple/pear weekend this month – just have to find a weekend. Also, going to another wine event this month too – crazy busy. I love a crisp apple alone or with a dab of peanut butter – YUMMY!!! Have a Great Week:)
