Visit to the vet & my glucose screening
Well, Lucy survived our first visit to the vet!
Thank goodness, the car ride there is less than 5 minutes because Lucy has already outgrown her kennel. She had to ride in the seat next to me on the way there, but don’t let the ladylike pose fool you…
She crawled onto my lap about 5 seconds after I snapped this photo.
As soon as we walked through the front door of the animal hospital, she was an instant hit with everyone!
Lucy was a bit nervous in the exam room at first, but she gradually seemed more relaxed.
Aside from a slight case of ear mites, everything checked out just beautifully, but we do have to go back in about two weeks for a nasty old shot.
Lucy wasn’t the only one with an appointment at the doctor this week though…
I had my early glucose screening this morning (a test to detect gestational diabetes), and I was not a happy camper because I was told to fast before my appointment.
Being that I am such a breakfast person, I definitely wasn’t thrilled with the idea of skipping it.
I lucked out though and didn’t have to wait too long to be seen by the doctor. I was eager to get the process rolling, so I could eat something!
The nurse told me that I had five minutes to drink the whole glucose solution (if you’re not familiar with it, it is basically sugar water). Because it wasn’t exactly pleasant tasting, I decided to chug it as fast as I could to just be done with it.
I’m pretty sure that I dazzled the doctor and staff with my amazing chugging skills.
To be honest, the drink was pretty gross, but I expected it to be way worse.
After drinking the solution, I got the chance to listen to the baby’s beautiful, strong, amazing heartbeat.
Then I was told to sit in the waiting room for an hour until it was time to have my blood drawn. The wait was painless because I entertained myself with some tabloid magazines. There’s nothing like a little trash to pass the time away!
My veins weren’t cooperative though, so rather than getting one shot today, I ended up getting stuck four times. It’s a good thing I can tolerate needles.
Anyway, I passed the test! Woo hoo!
Unfortunately, I have to take it again in 5 weeks, but at least, I’m in the clear for now.
Needless to say, I ate a few snacks as soon as I got into the car.
I’ve actually been carrying these Buddy Fruits around with me a lot lately. They are the perfect emergency snacks, especially if you’re pregnant and/or active and need to eat frequently. I’m pretty sure that they are for kids, but I am technically feeding them to a child. Plus, I’m a kid at heart.
Time to eat my lunch! I’ve been eating the same old thing for weeks now, and I’m not bored yet. I’ll share it with you next week.
Have you tried Buddy Fruits?
Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?
Is it supposed to be blazing hot where you live? We’re in for a sticky, sweaty, hot 106 degrees here in Charlotte tomorrow. I have a feeling that, for once in my life, I won’t be complaining that I’m too cold!
Have a great weekend!
