More pregnancy brain moments (the Aruba edition)

I’ve blogged about my pregnancy/baby brain a bunch of times since I’ve been pregnant, but it’s getting worse these days.

And the pregnancy brain definitely followed me to Aruba (specifically, the bathrooms in Aruba).  You’ll see…

Pregnancy Brain Moment #1

Being pregnant, I drink tons and tons of water each day.  I really tried to drink a lot in Aruba too since we were soaking up the sun all day long. Drinking lots of water obviously means making lots of trips to the bathroom.

On Saturday, I probably made about five visits to the little bathroom at the resort near the pool.  As I was washing my hands in the sink during that fifth stop, a man walked into the bathroom.  He looked really confused and flustered when he saw me and immediately poked his head back out the door to look at the sign (which read “Guest Bathroom”)…

And then he came back inside.

I told him that it was a unisex bathroom and not to worry.

He responded with, “Actually, it’s the men’s room.”

I ran out to take a look for myself, and sure enough, the signs were clearly marked under the “Guest Bathroom” part.

I had been using the men’s room all day long.

Pregnancy Brain Moment #2

As we were waiting for our check at Senor Frog’s on Sunday evening, I got up to use the restroom.  I looked to the back of the restaurant and saw some large writing on the wall that said “Restroom” and headed back that way.

Well, I ended up in the kitchen with about ten staff members just staring at me blankly.

When I stepped back out into the restaurant, some man pointed me in the right direction and said, “You look very lost and confused.”

I told him that I didn’t understand why the sign said it was the restroom when it was really the kitchen, and he didn’t respond.

After coming out of the bathroom, I tripped and just barely stopped myself from falling flat onto my face.

Flustered, I sat back down at our table and told Michael that I had walked into the kitchen.  As I pointed back to the giant “Restroom” sign, I noticed that I had originally failed to read the whole sign which actually said:

This is the kitchen and not the restroom.

Needless to say, we got out of there as quickly as we could after that little incident.

What I’ve learned from these two pregnancy brain moments

  1. When it comes to signage, the baby has taken away my ability to read more than a few words at a time.
  2. I’ll never use a public bathroom in Aruba ever again- or at least not while I am pregnant and dangerous.

Pregnant or not, have you had any ditzy moments lately?  Please share!  They will make me feel better.  :)

  1. I actually used the men’s bathroom at a very busy movie theater last week… no pregnancy to blame it on either.

  2. I am dealing with an injury that is affecting a nerve and talk about pain brain lately. I go for walks throughout the day for therapy. One day I must have stood at the curb for almost a minute trying to figure out what foot to step off with and it just was not working. Then a co-worker caught me – such a ditz – ha!
