My healthy grocery list staples
If you’re anything like me, you simply cannot go into the grocery store without a list.
Going in list-free either means walking out with a whole bunch of things that I do not need, or even worse, forgetting items that I desperately need.
In all honesty, I am often guilty of the latter even with a list!
Regardless of that sad fact, I make a grocery list every single week before I go shopping. While it can change a bit depending on sales and what I am planning to cook during the week, there are certain items that make their way onto my list each and every week without fail.
(The bulk of my weekly groceries come from Trader Joe’s. Everything else comes from the farmers market or Harris Teeter.)
- Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- Earth Balance butter
- Sprouted rye bread
- Whole wheat bread
- Baby carrots
- Romaine lettuce
- Sweet potatoes
- Corn (in the summertime)
- Tomatoes (In my mind, tomatoes are veggies. )
- Organic eggs
- Sliced turkey
- Nuts (loving pistachios lately)
Canned or jarred goods
- Artichoke hearts
- Fire roasted red & yellow peppers
- Salad dressing (usually some kind of balsamic or Goddess dressing)
- Coconut water
- Cats cookies (great for settling my stomach)
- Prepared frozen meal (I like to stock up on these from Trader Joe’s. They are great in a pinch- or if I am just not up to cooking!)
Obviously, if we’re not out of a certain item and don’t need it, I don’t buy it that week.
In addition to my weekly shopping, I take a trip to Earth Fare once a month for bulk bin items and protein bars (and for fun), and I also go to BJs monthly.
At BJs, I like to buy organic chicken (which usually lasts us for the entire month), quinoa (I eat a ton of it), and granola bars for Michael. The bars are a perfect grab-and-go breakfast for him during the week.
Do you shop with a list?
What are some of your weekly grocery staples? Lately, I’ve also been buying fresh herbs like mint and basil.
I’ll post this week’s Trader Joe’s haul tomorrow!
