My favorite Christmas ornaments

Since it is Christmas Eve, I thought it would be appropriate to share some of my very favorite Christmas ornaments with you today.

Even though the tree doesn’t have a theme or anything, I’m sort of picky when it comes to the ornaments that I put on it and have a rule that the ornaments all have to be made out of glass (with the exception of one Lenox ornament).

(We’re all anal in some way or another, right?)

We do have a smaller tree upstairs where the “fun” ornaments are hung, including a leg lamp ornament as an ode to A Christmas Story.

(MT also has an actual leg lamp in his study, which I gave to him a few Christmases ago.  It can be seen from the street when it is turned on, so I’m sure our neighbors think we’re nuts.)

This ornament is from my very first Christmas, so it’s pretty special to me and very old.  Well, not that old. ;)

This is Michael’s first Christmas ornament (an early gift from my parents), so it is obviously dear to my heart.  It’s so sweet to think of how he might hang this on his tree one day when he’s grown and has a family of his own.

As some of you might recall, MT flies RC planes.  I love this airplane ornament because it’s a little reflection of him.

My mother bought a Frosty the Snowman book for Michael, and I’ve been reading it to him nearly every day during this holiday season.  Obviously, he doesn’t exactly understand the plot, but he laughs whenever I read the “thumpety thump thump” part.   When I saw this Frosty ornament in Target last week, I just had to buy it for my little man.

MT and I picked up this ornament when we stayed at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina one weekend during the summer of 2010.  It’s just a nice reminder of our first summer as a married couple.

None of the three ornaments above have a sentimental value, but I just love penguins and think the ornaments are so adorable.

This ornament always makes me smile.  I mean, it’s an ice-skating reindeer.  That just has to make you smile!

What is your favorite Christmas ornament?

Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?  When we were children, my father used to read Christmas stories to my sister and me.  I’m hoping that he carries on that tradition with Michael and his future grandchildren as well.

To all of those who celebrate…

Merry Christmas Eve!

I’m glad that you like them too! :) We received some more as Christmas gifts, so I’ll have to share them next year.

  2. Love your post – thanks for sharing:) I have some sentimental ornaments (like a pair of hiking boots, bought an ornament in August for our trip to Yellowstone, etc.). Since I have blended into 2 families things have gotten a little tricky, but it works out in the end (my hubbie’s family does Christmas Eve and my family does Christmas day). Have a Great One:)

  3. The hiking boots must be so cute! Hope you had a great Christmas! :)
