Book recommendations needed

I feel so incredibly refreshed this morning- and I have this little guy to thank for it.

Michael slept through the night for the very first time!

I put him down to sleep at 8:30 pm, and he didn’t wake until nearly 7 am today.

He usually wakes once during the night which is nothing to complain about at all.  However, getting a full night of uninterrupted rest can really do a body good, and I’m flying high right now!

Before I finish my green smoothie and tackle the day, I’d like to get some of your recommendations regarding books to read.

I’ve always loved to read, and as an English major, I had to read constantly when I was in college.  Obviously, it has been kind of difficult to find the time to kick back with a good book during these past few months, but I’d really like to make reading a priority again.

For reference, I’m not a fan of science fiction novels or vampires (which should rule out most of the New York Times best sellers), but I’m open to most anything else.

I plan to update my Pinterest board with all of the suggestions that I receive, so if you’re also looking for something to read, check it out.

(You’ll notice that I have quite a fascination with books about the mafia.)

The board also includes some books that I’d love to read again, such as The Great Gatsby and Anne of Green Gables.  There’s just something so comforting about curling up with an old favorite that you’ve read a million times already.  It’s kind of gloomy out today, so it would actually be the perfect time to do just that.

Enjoy your day!

  1. Jenny O.

I saw the Killing Kennedy book on your Pinterest board. Try “Once Upon a Secret,” by Mimi Alford. Fascinating story about her time with Kennedy. VERY easy and interesting read. And if you liked Mindy Kahling’s book, you’ve got to read Tina Fey’s. 😉

You’re awesome! Thank you for the suggestions. I just added them to my board. :)

  2. Way to Go Mama – Sleeping through the Night – YAY!!! If I have the time I troll the library/book store to see if anything grabs me. I also check out to see what is “hot” at the moment and other book review sites. Cannot wait to see what you Pin – Happy Reading – Happy Tuesday:)

I hope you also find some on the board that interest you. :)

  3. Ooo. I love any book by Louise Erdrich, but The Master Butcher’s Singing Club is my favorite.

If you want something lighter, then The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter is one I reread a lot (and no, it’s not trashy romance, even though it sounds that way).

And I’m currently reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel, and it’s good, but it’s hard to read when you can’t focus completely on it. But I’m fascinated by Henry the 8th and his court …

    Happy reading and happy sleeping!

Thanks so much for the suggestions, Anna! I just added them to my Pinterest board. :)

  4. I was an english major too (and english teacher)! Gatsby is my all time favorite book, I cannot wait for the new movie coming out.

Too bad we don’t live close to one another. We could geek out and see the movie together- and in true English major fashion, we’d compare and contrast the book and the movie, of course. :)
