My Oil Pulling Journey: Week Two

(You can go to my Oil Pulling tab for all of my posts on this subject.)

I’m still going strong with the oil pulling!

Here is a recap of my second week as an oil swisher.  In case you missed it, you can read about my week one experience here.

Day Eight

I decided to stick with olive oil for awhile rather than coconut oil.  Even though I am such a fan of coconut oil (as you all know very well), I find it harder to keep in my mouth without swallowing and swear that I end up with less oil at the end every time.

Day Nine

Using olive oil again, I swished for 20 minutes in the morning and for 10 more minutes before bed using coconut oil.  I’m pretty sure that I swallowed some of the coconut oil though.

Day Ten

I decided to switch things up with sesame oil, and I actually didn’t mind the taste one bit.  I did the oil pulling for 25 minutes in the morning and for 5 minutes that evening.

Day Eleven

Still loving that sesame oil!  I used it for about 20 minutes in the morning, but I’m not sure exactly since I forgot to set my timer.  I skipped the pulling that night out of laziness.

Day Twelve

I only used the sesame oil for 15 minutes in the morning because I had to tell Michael not to open a drawer. It’s kind of difficult to talk with a mouth full of oil!

Day Thirteen

My love affair with sesame oil remained strong.  I used it for 20 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes before bed.  Pulling at night has almost become as much of a routine as pulling in the morning.

Day Fourteen

I used coconut oil for 5 minutes, spit it out, and switched to olive oil for another 15 minutes.  What is it with me and the coconut oil lately?

After two weeks, I’ve found that I look forward to oil pulling every day now.  It has become just another habit, and it has not been difficult to keep going at all.

As far as results, my teeth continue to get whiter and my tooth sensitivity is still gone.  My skin did go through a mild purging phase this week, but it wasn’t anything horrific that kept me from leaving the house.  My mouth also feels a lot cleaner, and I think the process is worth going through just for that benefit alone!

Even though I am having good results, I really need to make myself use coconut oil more often, as I hear that it yields the most dramatic changes.  Maybe some more practice will help.

I’m jumping into week three, and as always, I’ll update you at the end of the week!

  1. I am SO intrigued by this – it’s the first time I’ve heard about it, and I love you day to day commentary. I may just try it myself!

Please let me know if you do!

  2. Fascinating. I’m going to try it as I’ve been feeling like I need a cleanse. Been eating lots of yucky food and sliding back into bad habits.

How has it been going? :) I know that it is super gross at first, and to be honest, it is never like swishing cupcake frosting around in your mouth (wouldn’t that be nice?)…but it is so worth it!

  3. How long are you doing the oil pulling? I am interested but not sure of the ‘rules’ (2x per day, 1 month etc.)

Initially decided to do it for 30 days, but I am so hooked that I might keep on going! Here’s my original post. You can find out more about the process there. :) http://thegrassskirtblog.com/2013/12/04/oil-pulling-method-definition-process-benefits/

  4. Yet again, SO cool. Do you put the coconut oil in as a solid and let it melt? That’s probably what I’ll start with (along with olive oil too). That sesame oil idea sounds crazy to me because I really can’t stand much of it on my food, let alone imagining it in my mouth! haha
