8 veggies to add to your smoothies & a giveaway!

For the most part, I am pretty good about making sure that I eat enough vegetables.  I truly love salads and snacking on things like cucumbers and sliced bell peppers, so it isn’t all that hard for me.

There are those rare days, however, when I fall a few servings short of the recommended daily amount (mostly when I am on vacation or eating meals outside of the home).

Part of the reason why I love smoothies so much is that they make it really easy to work in those veggies.  You may even be surprised at how many vegetables can be hidden in smoothies.  Here are some of my top picks…

Kale

Benefits:  It’s a wonderful source of calcium, helps to boost immunity, and can cut your risk of developing early stage cancer.

Tastes best in:  Milk, juice, or water-based smoothies

Spinach

Benefits:  It can improve bone, heart, and immune system health.  Spinach may also prevent cancer, hyperthyroidism, and mascular degeneration.

Swiss Chard

Benefits:  It is a valuable source of calcium, iron, and magnesium.

Benefits: Collard greens are a wonderful source of lutein and zeaxanthin which can reduce our risk of needing cataract surgery.

  1. So I added kale to my chocolate protein smoothie the other morning and I COULD NOT drink it. It was so bitter!

    When I use kale, I have to add like a whole banana and some sweetener. It can be VERY bitter otherwise. You also have to blend it for an extra long time. That helps a bit.

  12. I made the Green Monster smoothie this morning and it was wonderful. I have never used Kale before but I am a fan now that I tried the Green Monster!
