3 nontoxic ways to instantly make your home smell like Fall

I just cannot get enough of fall aromas like warm apple pie, pumpkin, and crisp leaves.

One of my biggest weaknesses are fall scented candles from Bath & Body Works, but I hate how they release so many toxins into the air that my children breathe.  I try not to burn candles in general when my kids are awake, but I do allow myself to get some candles during the fall and the winter because I am a big believer in “everything in moderation” and well, I love them.

Still, I am always looking for more natural ways to add fragrance to my home and have some great alternatives to those tempting (and fabulous) candles.  I’d even call these options more budget-friendly- always a plus!

Diffusing Essential Oils

This one is kind of obvious considering how popular essential oils are these days, but it can be tricky to come up with just the right combinations.  After much experimentation, I’ve found some lovely mixtures and always have at least one diffuser going in the house.  Some of my personal favorite blends for fall include:

Clove, Cinnamon, & Sweet Orange (1-2 drops of each)

Sandalwood, Vanilla, Cinnamon, & Clove (1-2 drops of each)

Sweet Orange, Rosemary, Ginger, Eucalyptus, Clove, & Cinnamon (1-2 drops of each)

Ginger, Cinnamon, & Nutmeg (1-2 drops of each)

My Classic Stove Top Concoction

I started to make this mixture four years ago and continue to do so today.  The mixture consists of nothing more than orange peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and water, so it is completely safe to have it going while your kids are in the room.  You can even use a small crock pot rather than your stove top.   See my original post to learn how I make it!

Autumn Bundle Spray by LCOrganics

I’m not afraid of a little DIY action, but I’m going to be real here… Most of the time, I’d much rather purchase something than make it.  My friend Michele introduced me to LCOrganics (and its creator, her talented friend Lili) through her video about how to get started with essential oils. After watching, I immediately placed an order for the autumn room and linen sprays which include the appropriately named Pumpkin Pie and Fall Spices.  They are seriously fall in a spray bottle and free of the artificial odors that some others I’ve used tend to have. I actually spray them on the blanket that I use in the evening when I curl up on the couch with my tea (or popcorn), and even though it is still shorts and sandals weather here in North Carolina, the scents put me in a fall frame of mind.

The LCOrganics product line also includes bug repellent, body oil, massage oil, and a skin soother balm, and all of the products are “made only with natural and often organic ingredients, free of any synthetic fragrances, colors, stabilizers, emulsifiers and preservatives.”  I was also really impressed by how quickly my order arrived!
