5 ways to fight the aging process in the spring & summer

I celebrated another birthday last Wednesday which is probably why I have the subject of anti-aging on my brain.

While using certain creams, managing stress, following a healthy diet, limiting alcohol consumption, and not smoking can all help to slow down the aging process (or at least allow us to age more gracefully), there are some other non-surgical things that we can do to combat wrinkles.

The 5 tips below can apply year-round, but they are even more crucial during the warmer months of the year.

5 ways to fight the aging process during the spring and summer

1.  Always wear sunscreen.

We all know that wearing sunscreen is important.  This is certainly not new information.  But if you’re someone who only wears sunscreen every now and then, I encourage you to get into the habit of wearing it daily.  While our skin is affected by the sun even in the dead of winter, we tend to be more exposed to it when the weather is warmer, so start covering yourself in sunscreen from head to toe!  Right now, I am using a sunscreen by California Naturel.  Go one step further and choose a foundation, tinted moisturizer, or powder with some SPF in it.

2.  Choose a lip product with SPF.

Your lips are susceptible to sun damage just like the rest of your body, so make sure that you always have a lip balm with SPF on hand.  I’ve been known to stash lip balms everywhere! At the moment, I am using one by California Naturel.

3.  Avoid tanning beds like the plague, and choose a non-toxic sunless tanner instead.

Thankfully, I was never a tanning bed fanatic (though I have regrettably been to them a few times in the distant past).  A much safer, healthier, and skin-friendly alternative is a sunless tanner, such as my favorite by True Natural.  Not only is it non-toxic, but it is also super effective and natural looking.

4.  Wear a hat when you are outdoors.

Another great way to protect your face from the sun is by wearing a wide brimmed hat.  My go-to lately is just a simple baseball cap, but Target always has lots of cute options.  Hair can also show signs of aging, so a hat will protect your hair from sun damage as well.  Dual-purpose!

5.  Drink water like it’s your job.

When we are dehydrated, our skin gets dry, and dry skin is more prone to wrinkles.  That’s just one of the many reasons why we should be drinking water.  I find that I drink more water when I have a cute tumbler or water bottle which may sound silly, but it really does work for me.

Please share your favorite brand of sunscreen in the comments- especially if you use one that is on the more natural side!
