A healthy start to the day

I’m so glad that everyone enjoyed my A Dairy Free Life series (if you missed it, check out Parts I, II, & III).  I forgot to mention that soy milk is another great dairy free option.  I just happen to hate soy milk.  I hate the consistency, the smell, the taste… you get the idea.

This morning, I went to a wonderful local (dairy-free!) restaurant called Luna’s Living Kitchen.  I’ve been there many times before but never for breakfast, so I was pretty excited.

Even more exciting was the fact that my beautiful friend Kirsten joined me.  We met up while both of our husbands were at home still sleeping.

Lazy bums.

Kirsten’s birthday is on Monday, so I gave her a bag filled with some fun things like Justin’s nut butter packets, fresh peanut butter from Earth Fare, trail mix, and Lara Bars. I love having fellow healthy food lovers as friends!

While we waited on our breakfast orders, Kirsten sipped on an Iced Chai.  She sweetly let me have a taste, and I was surprised to find that it had a yummy orange flavor to it.

I had The Power Cleanser which is fresh juice made with beets, parsley, carrot, and cucumber.  You know how I love my juice!

For breakfast, Kirsten ordered the Swiss Bircher Muesli, and I had The Bright Morning Star, a bowl filled with buckwheat granola, fruit, and almond milk.

It was so filling that I only managed to eat half of it.  But it was really good!  We both agreed that the granola would make a wonderful snack on its own.

Nothing beats a nice healthy breakfast.  It sets the tone for the entire day!

Juli, a familiar face at Luna’s, even stopped by the table to tell us how she made the almond milk.  Believe it or not, dates were involved!

After we finished eating, we walked over to the nearby farmer’s market.

I forgot to bring cash, but a nice vendor gave me a plum for free! Nice people rule.  Mean people drool.

Are you a breakfast person?  If so, what is your favorite thing to order when you go out?  Breakfast is my very favorite meal of the day.  I love pancakes, waffles, eggs, cereal, Panera whole grain bagels, and I need to stop myself before I go on and on and on!

  1. I love breakfast food. I think my favorite thing right now are pancakes. I made some blueberry, white chocolate, coconut pancakes for breakfast tomorrow. I can’t wait to try them!

  2. I haven’t been to Luna’s for breakfast! I definitely need to check it out. When I go out for breakfast I love eggs and omelets, tofu scramble (at Zada Janes), smoked salmon, and quiche. 🙂

  3. When I go out for breakfast I go for two eggs over medium, with a couple strips of bacon and crispy hasbrowns. I also love a bagel and cream cheese when getting ready to go for a long hike in the mountains. I made waffles last Sunday for our Wedding Anniversary breakfast and then my husband made dinner for us. I moved from the Midwest to the West Coast and my hometown NEEDS a Panera.

  5. I just recently tried Eggs Benedict and it was amazing! Besides that, I usually go for some sort of veggie scramble.

  6. Breakfast is the bestest! I’m totally with you on loving all things breakfast…as you can probably tell since I’ve had pancakes three times in the past two days. Oops. 🙂

    Looks like such a great morning! And that chai looks delicious…mmm! I’m with you – not a fan of soymilk. I’ll drink it if it’s covered up in chai taste, but not in many other drinks. Happy weekend!
