Working out while on vacation

When I go on vacation, I really like to enjoy my vacation.

However, I don’t like to let myself get completely lazy, so I typically try to squeeze in a workout or some physical activity when I’m away.

Tips for working out while on vacation

  • Pack workout clothes in your suitcase, an iPod, and whatever else you might need.
  • Wake up a bit earlier in the day to work out, so you can enjoy the rest of your day.
  • Utilize the hotel gym (if you’re staying somewhere that has one).
  • Pack workout DVDs, some light weights or resistance bands, and exercise in your hotel room.
  • Take advantage of your local environment.  When Michael and I go to Hilton Head, we rent bicycles and bike all over the island for exercise.  While I away this week, I try to take long walks on the beach as much as possible (I also build sand castles with the kids, but I don’t think that counts as exercise…).
  • Don’t stress if you can’t work out everyday or if your workouts aren’t as intense as they are when you’re at home.  After all, you are on vacation.  You get points just for trying!

  1. I always pack two workout outfits and my tennis shoes in my suitcase. Then get out and walk, hike, or bike. If I am going to stay at a hotel look to see if they offer a gym, swimming pool or walking trails to get a workout in when on vacation.

      I love taking walks on vacation. We did that last night on the beach. A hike is also a great idea!

  3. I always workout on vacation! In fact, running in new areas is one of my favorite things to do!

  4. I agree with Jen! I love running in new places, although sometimes I get a little lost like when I was in San Jose. Running at the beach is the absolute best! Sometimes I do a little research before I go to see if there are any trails/paths close-by, which makes me less likely to get lost.

      It would be so convenient to workout on vacation if I was a runner! I am sure it is so much fun to explore new territory. I love taking walks instead though. 🙂
