Birds Eye View & Grilled Tuna Steak

Because I’m a lucky member of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker Program, a box of Birds Eye Chef’s Favorites was delivered to my house last week.

It was such a great surprise!

After all, there aren’t many things better than food left at your doorstep.

 

 

When I saw the Mushroom and Green Bean Risotto, I knew that it would be perfect with the grilled tuna steaks we were having for dinner that evening.

 

Grilled Tuna Steak

(Serves 2)

Ingredients
1/2 large lemon (zested and juiced)
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon basil
2 tuna steaks
Sea salt and fresh ground pepper

Combine the zest, juice, garlic and herbs in a large bowl.  Add the tuna (turning to coat) and marinate for 15 minutes at room temperature.  Prepare your outdoor grill.  Remove tuna from marinade, reserving the extra marinade.  Season the tuna with salt and pepper on both sides.  Grill about 4 minutes on each side.  Transfer to a plate.  Heat the reserved marinade in the microwave for 30 seconds and spoon over the tuna.

 

Looks like homemade, doesn't it?

 

I’ll be honest.  We’ve had frozen veggies and rice before that were sort of less than stellar, so I was a little nervous that Michael wouldn’t like the risotto.

While we were eating, Michael paused mid-way through a conversation and said, “This risotto is fantastic!”

He went on to say that it was flavorful and fresh and that he couldn’t even tell it was previously frozen.  I agreed that it was very good and pretty darn impressive for something that I only had to pop in the microwave for 4 minutes.

I felt like I was in the middle of a shoot for a television commercial!

The tuna was also delicious, by the way.  I absolutely love the lemon and garlic combination.

When Michael continued to talk about the meal the next morning, I knew that we had a smashing success. Unfortunately, these Birds Eye vegetable dishes won’t be available in stores until September, so we’ll just have to be patient.

When was the last time that you were pleasantly surprised by a new product you’ve tried?  Do you ever eat frozen vegetables or vegetable dishes?  We always try to eat homemade dishes, but sometimes there just isn’t time.  Frozen varieties can be a great way for busy families to sneak some veggies into their meals.

  3. I LOVE the Steamfresh Southwestern Corn. I put it in my chili, tacos, Mexican casseroles, AND on its own as a side. My freezer feels naked without at least 2 bags in it at all times! Viva Birdseye!

      You’re totally going to love their new stuff then. I swear that it is so good. You cannot tell that it isn’t homemade!
