Easy Like Sunday Morning (Why I love Lionel Richie)

Well, it is a rainy gloomy Sunday morning, and unlike yesterday, breakfast was an easy decision…

Pumpkin oats with 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup canned pumpkin, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, Stevia, and 1 tsp chia seeds.  I kept the theme going with some pumpkin coffee from Dunkin Donuts.

It took me way back to the days (2 months ago) when I was so obsessed with pumpkin that I nearly developed an orange glow.

I was flying solo last night after I had dinner with my parents,  so I decided the only logical thing for me to do would be to watch Lionel Richie Live in Paris.

Isn’t that what everyone does on Saturday night? 🙂

Ok, I was a total geek last night.  I sang and danced along the whole time, and I’m pretty sure that I scared the dog.

This is probably a great time for me to explain why I’m such a huge Lionel Richie fan.

The obvious reason is that I love his voice and music. No other song can get me moving like Dancing on the Ceiling and no other song tears me up like Stuck on You.

Lionel is an amazing entertainer, and I’m so fortunate that Michael took me to see him perform at the MGM Grand  Theater at Foxwoods Casino a couple of years ago.   It was amazing. He put on such a great show and was captivating and funny.  And he sounded exactly like his recordings.

(Update:  I have since seen him twice more in concert!)

But there is also a not-so-obvious reason why I love him.

When I was a little girl, I remember being in the car with my mother where she kept a Lionel Richie cassette tape.  She’d play the tape when we’d drive from New York to Pennsylvania to visit my grandparents.  I’d sit in the back seat listening to the lyrics of the man who I thought was called Lion-o, as I anxiously looked forward to giving my grandfather a great big hug.  Mom would be up in the front singing, and my sister would be asleep with her head resting on my shoulder (as buckets of drool poured out of her mouth and onto me).

Lionel holds a special place in my heart for being a part of those memories (drool and all).  He’s my endless love…

Yes, I just took this too far.

Are there any performers/famous figures who get you all sentimental?

I have another fun lunch date planned for today- and maybe a trip to Banana Republic with a gift card that has been burning a hole in my wallet.

Have a great day!!

  1. What a sweet memory! For me, music memories are all about Bob Dylan. My dad played Dylan songs on the guitar and my sister and I knew all the words. I still love me some Bob!
