Emotional wreck & healthy eats from the week (9/28)

I’ve probably repeated this about one-hundred times now, and I’ll say it again…

My pregnancy has been pretty much nothing but awesome.

But for whatever reason (most likely hormones), I’ve felt like an emotional wreck over the past couple of weeks.

One minute, I’m giddy and excited, and you can find me in the nursery playing with all of the baby’s things and gushing over his clothes.

The next minute, I’m crying because I won’t have that much more alone time with Michael- and because I’m overtired from not being able to sleep at night.

God bless my husband, who has been very patient and understanding with me as I ride on this emotional roller-coaster.

Another part of my issue is that I feel overwhelmed and cannot stop nesting.

There are so many projects in the house that I want to tackle before the baby arrives.   The urge that I have to make sure every nook and cranny of the house is organized immediately is truly overpowering.

Michael, my mother, and my doctor have all told me that I need to chill…and they are right.

I’m finally starting to accept the fact that all of the things on my to-do list can be accomplished even after the baby is born.  I’ve also realized that the baby really isn’t going to care about how I’ve organized (or failed to organize) the coat closet.

While I don’t plan on being a slug for the next three weeks, I do intend to take it down a few notches and relax a bit more while I actually can.  My mom suggested a few movie marathons, and I definitely like the sound of that! 🙂

I didn’t take a ton of pictures this week, but I do have some healthy meals and snacks to share with you.


Healthy eats from the week


Spaghetti squash with olive oil, garlic, mushrooms, and broccoli (I can eat broccoli in small quantities now without feeling sick!)

Plain Greek yogurt with mango, banana slices, and flaxseed

Southwestern black bean, quinoa, and mango medley

Gluten-free granola bar (recipe to come soon)

Green smoothie made with kale, banana, almond milk, flaxseed, and Perfect Fit protein powder

Chicken with balsamic peppers with a side salad

Has anyone else ever felt like an emotional wreck during pregnancy?  Did you have trouble making yourself relax?  Any tips on how to make myself calm down and enjoy this time are welcome!

  1. I’ve never been pregnant so I can’t answer that, but you bet your butt I will be a crazy woman all the time!! To calm down, drink some water or tea, go for a walk, pray, or just make a list of things that make you happy. 🙂

  2. Been there, definitely. I over planned big time before Katherine was born. When she finally arrived, I realized that taking a trip to Target to grab something we needed was still totally easy. You’ll be prepared enough, I’m sure. But what you don’t have or discover you need will be very easy to get. Honestly, you might even be glad for a reason to get out!

    • This makes me feel so much better. You’re right- I am sure that I’ll be dying for an excuse to get out…and I keep forgetting that babies are portable. LOL.

  3. Oh, we’ve all been there in some form. Maybe not exactly like that, but some kind of “pregnancy crazy”. 🙂 There’s not much you can do to help yourself relax except distract yourself with something else, hence your wanting to re-organize everything, especially with the first one. I think the best thing that I did to relax was have my sister come over and help me with a project, and by help I mean she did basically all the work and I got to boss her around (she told me to, so it’s ok). LOL 🙂 If a movie marathon will help you relax, by all means – do it! If cuddling up with a book you’ve been dying to read does it, do it. It’s hard to calm the excitement, but remember – this is only the beginning. 🙂 There’s a whole life change involved with children that is so hard to explain until the baby is born. It’s a big thing, a special thing, a wonderful and hard thing – and it’s all so very amazing. One day you’ll look back and truly smile (and maybe laugh or cry a little) about this time. You’ll be so glad you blogged about it. I wish you all the best with the birth and the newness of a family of 3. 🙂

  4. I’m glad you’re feeling well and working to get ready. While I don’t think you need to freak out, you have a nesting instinct for a reason. Get things ready — it’s soothing. But if it doesn’t all get done, forgive yourself. Once the baby comes you will be more tired and less able to get things done. Be ready for that, too. And forgive yourself for that, too.

    Anyone who’s given birth has had this. It’s part of our biology. It means you’re healthy and things are going along just as they should. Take a deep breath and trust that. And enjoy a few movie marathons. That does sound nice. And the next time someone tells you to slow down and chill out tell them they can help make that happen by taking you out to lunch or joining you for your marathon.

    Best wishes on these last weeks and on delivery. I hope it’s swift and uneventful — except for the event of holding that beautiful baby in your arms. Congratulations!

  5. If you can settle down, maybe catch up on some reading too. Maybe your hubbie can give you an hour of foot pampering to help you chill:)Your in the home stretch and soak it up before the bundle of joy arrives!

  6. I definitely had a week or two were I had pregnancy depression feeling like my life was about to change drastically and I didn’t know if I was going to be ready for it. I had a few weekends when my to-do list was so long that I felt like I couldn’t rest until it was done. Luckily, my husband was very understanding and helped me knock it out, making me feel a whole lot better. But, one thing I wished I had done was had more movie marathons, like you said. Soak up every minute of your alone time. What I wouldn’t give for 1 hour just to relax and not have to rock/feed/change/entertain a baby. ;D Enjoy!
