Friday Favorites (8/29)

Happy Friday!

I know that I say this every time I post a Friday Favorites, but I really do have a lot of great things to share this week.

Here they are in no particular order…

Nutiva O'Coconut Snacks

Nutiva O’Coconut Treats

I recently received some samples and wasn’t really sure what to expect- especially since the description said that they contain hemp and I am really not much of a fan.  These are so delicious though, and just one makes for the perfect after dinner snack.  If you love coconut, you will go crazy for these little guys!

Think Dirty app to find out how your products stack up when it comes to toxicity

Think Dirty App

As you know, I try to use natural beauty products (especially skin care) whenever possible.  Naturally, I was ecstatic when I found out about this app that allows users to scan products to learn how they rate as far as toxicity and even gives suggestions that are cleaner.  A product with a score of 0-3 does not contain any known controversial or harmful ingredients.  A rating between 4-7 means that the product has moderate long-term health impacts, and those falling under the 8-10 category contain ingredients that have serious long-term health impacts. I was shocked when my Burt’s Bees body lotion came up as a 9!  This app makes it so easy to choose healthier products that I actually feel kind of guilty when I reach for ones that aren’t the best for me.

Target pajamas

Xhilaration Tee/Woven Boxer Pajama Collection

While I don’t always succeed, I try to look as cute as possible when I am out and about.  It is partly due to vanity and partly due to not wanting to scare children and animals with an unsightly appearance.  When it comes to pajamas, however, I usually just throw on an old t-shirt and whatever bottoms I can find (usually sweatpants or yoga pants) and call it a night.  I recently decided that I needed to overhaul my pajama drawer, and I have been slowly getting cuter sets like this one from Target.  They are super comfy and inexpensive (especially since I saved 20% using the Cartwheel app).  Target is just the best.

Tangle Teezer brush

Tangle Teezer

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I have been dealing with some postpartum hair loss.  By the way, I still plan to do a post about that soon- most likely on The Mini Skirt once it is live.  Anyway, I have been trying to be as gentle on my hair as possible, and that includes using a Tangle Teezer. A Tangle Teezer is a professional detangling hairbrush that can brush “through wet, vulnerable and color treated hair with no pulling, tugging or yanking”.  I’ve noticed a considerable difference in the amount of hair that I lose after washing since I have been using this brush.  Plus, the cute bright pink color of the one that I own makes me very happy.

Health benefits of brown rice protein powder

Jarrow Formulas Brown Rice Protein Concentrate

Before I rave about this protein powder, I need to just get one thing out of the way… This stuff smells really bad.  I’m also pretty sure that it would be a little nasty in smoothies.  Now that I have your mouths watering (ha ha), I’ll get into the reason why I am digging it lately.  This stuff makes awesome protein pancakes.  They are been turning out fluffier, fuller, and just…better.  The health benefits of brown rice protein are pretty great too:

Made from whole grain organic brown rice, is easily digested, gluten-free, hypoallergenic, and a vegetarian/vegan source of protein. Ideal: As a high-protein alternative to soy and animal products…The protein quality scores exceed 100% for almost all the amino acids in the product. No added sugar, artificial flavors or sweeteners. Non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms).

If you haven’t tried brown rice protein yet, I highly suggest that you do.  Just be sure to plug your nose while you’re working with it. 😉

Have a great weekend!

  1. I have tried brown rice pasta, but not protein – interesting. I like coconut, but the hemp part scares me a bit. Happy Weekend – Enjoy 🙂

  2. The app looks interesting. Will be very handy. I love Target PJ’s and they always have great sale.
