Jazzercise- No Legwarmers Required

Recently, I was invited to take a complimentary Jazzercise class at a local studio in Fort Mill.

I was really excited about it and jumped at the opportunity.

But I had no idea what to expect.

After all, the closest experience that I’d ever had to Jazzercise was doing Mousercise as a little kid in front of the television.

Anyone else remember Mousercise?  Didn’t think so.

Anyway, there’s a misconception that Jazzercise consists of leg warmers, lots of cheesy music, and a less than challenging workout.

Trust me when I say, this isn’t the case at all.

Sure, Jazzercise has been around for 40 years, but the routines and music are fresh, extremely aerobic, and anything but boring.  In fact, the class burns up to 600 calories an hour! (source)

And if you’re a fan of Dancing with the Stars like I am, you’ll be excited to know that  Cheryl Burke is the Jazzercise spokeswoman.

When I arrived at the studio on Monday, I was instantly greeted by other woman of all ages who were there to take the class as well.  They all seemed very excited to see a new face, and I felt so welcome and comfortable.

Before class started, we grabbed some mats, hand weights, and resistance bands to use during the toning portion.

Sarah, our awesome instructor, led us through a high energy, fun workout with lots of current upbeat music.

The routine followed a Perceived Exertion Chart. Throughout the class, Sarah would let us know where we were on the curve.  It was really helpful in terms of knowing when to exert the most energy and when to begin cooling down.

The moves, which I am told change every few weeks, were very easy to get down once I learned the patterns.  And there was plenty of booty shaking and hip action- which I always love!

After class, Sarah and I had the opportunity to chat for awhile.  I told her how much I enjoyed Jazzercise and that I plan to join the program.  Perfect timing too- there is actually a special deal for new members from August 19-22.  Woo hoo!

Have you ever tried Jazzercise?  What did you think of it?  If you’re interested in finding a class near you, check out the official Jazzercise website.

Gotta get a move on.  I have so much to do before heading to the Healthy Living Summit tomorrow!

Have a great day!
