Memories and moving on

Thank you once again for all of the beautiful and touching comments in response to Emma’s passing.   Over the course of the past few days, I’ve received countless Facebook messages, tweets, emails, texts, and phone calls as well.

My friends Kirsten and Justin even surprised me with some beautiful flowers.  The cheery yellow color reminds me of Emma.

You’ll never know how much all of your kindness has meant to me.

Originally, I wrote a long, emotional, tearful post for today about how I’ve been doing, but something funny happened this morning.  I woke up feeling much better and more positive.

A lot of that probably has to do with the fact that Michael came home from the beach yesterday afternoon.  With one hug from my husband, I instantly felt much better, and I knew that I’d get through this painful time.

The evening was definitely filled with lots of “I miss Emma” and “I keep looking for Emma”, but it gets easier to talk about her and laugh about the silly things she would do.

I drove to the animal hospital yesterday afternoon to pick up a plaque with Emma’s paw print on it and had the opportunity to thank the vet for being so kind to my baby.

Bringing the print home felt like bringing a part of Emma back home, and it was really comforting to me.

Michael and I are really excited about finding a very special place for it in our house.

When Michael first got home yesterday, he commented on how large my baby bump had grown since he last saw me.  It made me realize that this was the shape of our home now… Michael, me, the baby, and the memory of the sweetest dog I’ve ever known.

I’m definitely still sad, and I absolutely have moments when I just break down and cry.  However, you will soon be seeing the type of posts that you’re used to seeing here.

After all, life goes on…and I am so thankful that I have enough memories of Emma to last forever.

    • Thanks. 🙂 It is the best keepsake. We’re still trying to find the perfect spot for it- and of course, it has to be somewhere safe and protected! Have a great weekend. 🙂
