Mommy fashion & beauty essentials

(Please note: I received the Links of Necklace for free, but I have not been paid to write this post.  All opinions below reflect my own true thoughts and opinions.)

If you’re a fellow mommy, your clothes are probably also covered in unidentifiable stains most of the time, and you most likely don’t have the luxury of getting dressed to the nines every single day.

I’ve said it time and time again, but I still think that it is important for us to take care of ourselves and look polished- mostly because it makes us feel like we actually have it all together even when we don’t.

Aside from a good stand-by 5 minute face routine, there are a few beauty and fashion items that I think every mommy should have in her back pocket (or diaper bag).

Mommy beauty and fashion essentials

1. Dry shampoo

My hair is silky, fine, and tends to get oily at the roots very quickly.  Because I like to let it go 2-3 days between washings, a dry shampoo is essential for keeping my hair fresh and oil-free.  My two favorites are by Batiste and Dove. Some people don’t like the scent of the latter, but I actually love it.

Word of advice: Always make sure that you work the spray into your roots to blend, as some of them leave quite the white cast.  I looked like a skunk when I used one for the first time!

2.  Tinted lip balm

It’s amazing what just a little hint of color on the lips can do to brighten up the whole face.  I prefer to wear a balm versus a lipstick most days because I tend to give my little guy lots of kisses.  Right now, I’m really liking the Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Balm in Pink Me Up.

3.  Setting spray

I don’t have much time to touch up my makeup throughout the day, so it is really important that it stays put after I’ve put it on in the morning.  This setting spray by Skindinavia is pretty much a Godsend when it comes to making sure that my makeup doesn’t budge.  It also comes in a formula for those of us with dry skin and one that is supposed to have anti-aging properties.

4.  Easy hair style

Like I said earlier, I try not to wash my hair every day in order to keep it healthy.  On day two, I’ll typically let it go wavy (as you can see in the photo above), and on the third day, I’ll usually toss it up into a messy bun.  Both styles take absolutely no time at all and still look fairly cute (if I do say so myself).

5.  Staple piece of jewelry

I’m a total accessories girl, but on the days when Michael’s patience wears thin as I try to get dressed in the morning, I’ll just put on my wedding set and one other piece of jewelry to spruce up what I’m wearing.  Lately, that other piece of jewelry has been the Links of Love Necklace from Uncommon Goods.  In fact, I have been wearing it nearly every single day since it arrived in the mail.  Because it is made of both sterling silver and gold, it goes with pretty much anything in my wardrobe.  It was actually designed by an artist named Beth Lawrence whose “pieces subtly represent the ineffably strong connection a mother shares with her child”.  I’d say that wearing the necklace is pretty appropriate!

I’ve been of fan of Uncommon Goods for quite awhile now and have ordered many gifts for friends and family from the site.  Just as the name suggests, it’s a great place to find unusual items that you won’t find anywhere else. The Company is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York and “endeavors to feature unique designs and handcrafted gifts” that are environmentally friendly and often made of recycled or upcycled materials.  So, if you’re in the market for a unique handmade piece of jewelry, definitely visit their website.  It’s also a great place to find some Mother’s Day gifts!

6. Cross-body bag

I used to carry a diaper bag as my purse, but I felt like it was totally cramping my style.  However, carrying a giant diaper bag and a handbag isn’t always that practical or easy.  That’s why I love my cross body bags so much.  They’re cute, not overly cumbersome, and they can fit my wallet, keys, and lip balm just perfectly.  The one that I am carrying right now is the Amanda by Tory Burch, and it goes with pretty much anything.  I can even tuck it into my diaper bag when I don’t feel like carrying two bags.

What are some of your mommy beauty and fashion essentials?

Happy Monday!

  2. Maddie

Love Uncommon Goods! And I have been obsessed with my Dr. Rescue lip balm recently. I think I might have a small problem. 😉

  3. Love that necklace! I still haven’t tried dry shampoo but it might be a good option because I like to wash my hair every 2-3 days too and it does get greasy so I end up just throwing it up in a ponytail! Oh, and I also need a cross body bag. So looking for one when we go to FL next month!
