My favorite antioxidant rich smoothie
Smoothies have been my go-to breakfast for the past 6 years. I do occasionally like to switch things up and go for something like protein pancakes or oatmeal, but I always miss my smoothies- especially during this insane heat wave.
When I make a smoothie, taste is obviously important, but I always make sure that they are jam-packed with health and beauty foods above all else.
The smoothie that I am sharing with you today has been my favorite for several weeks now because it makes me feel good, makes me look good (well, better), and actually tastes good.
Blueberry Beauty Smoothie
(makes 1 serving)
Add the following ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth:
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup frozen blueberries
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 Tablespoon ground flaxseed
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I’m using a vegan pea protein powder right now.)
Stevia, to taste
3-4 ice cubes
Turmeric: Helps to fight inflammation, keeps the skin youthful looking, and can control joint pain
(If you’re a little put off by the thought of adding this spice to a smoothie, I hear you. I’m usually not a fan of turmeric, but the taste isn’t at all overpowering or strong. Promise!)
Cinnamon: Has anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, and balances blood sugar
Banana: Adds sweetness, aids collagen production, hydrates the skin, and keeps at acne at bay
Blueberries: Prevent and reduce wrinkles, combat breakouts, and improve circulation
Pea Protein: May lower blood pressure and fights inflammation
Flaxseed: Improves digestion (resulting in clearer skin), improves kidney function, reduces the risk of heart disease, and prevents cancer
Sometimes I’ll also add kale or spinach to the mix as well- especially if I foresee that my diet will be lacking in greens later that day.
Let me know if you make this smoothie yourself!
