Things I didn’t share Friday (3/21)

Things I didn’t share Friday (3/21)

1.  I’ve been sick for the past few days, and my symptoms have included chills, fever, a sore throat, a runny nose, sweating, and clogged ears.  In other words, you’re lucky that I’m not sitting beside you right now.  MT has taken very good care of me though and picked up takeout for dinner last night, so I wouldn’t have to cook.  Even though it stinks to be sick, I am so thankful that this came on now rather than 16 days from now when I am due to have a baby! 2.  I’ve had very intense cravings for unsweet...

{Updated} 5-minute face routine

{Updated} 5-minute face routine

Despite having a little one, getting ready in the morning has always been a pretty simple process.  We store a basket of waterproof toys in our bathroom to keep Michael occupied, and that always seemed to work really well.  When I’d turn on my hair dryer, he’d sit by my feet looking up at me with wonder.   He was even mesmerized by watching me use my eyelash curler. Birds weren’t landing on our windowsill singing morning tunes to us or anything like a scene right out of Cinderella, but the whole process was pretty close...

Recipe: Lemon butter salmon with kale mixture

Recipe: Lemon butter salmon with kale mixture

On Saturday night, I was struck hard by pregnancy insomnia.  My inability to sleep might also have been the unpleasant consequence of consuming caffeine for the first time in nearly 9 months.  In any case, I woke up wide awake at about 1:30 am and never fell back to sleep. I considered taking a shower.  I almost cleaned my closet.  I thought about all of the non-maternity clothes that I’d soon get to wear.  I wondered what our baby girl will look like.  And my mind also turned to what I was going to have for dinner that evening. As...

Style tips for looking your very best during pregnancy

Style tips for looking your very best during pregnancy

(Please note: While I did receive some clothing from Eve of Eden, all opinions stated below are my own. I was not paid to write this post.)   When I was pregnant with Michael, I felt as though I lost my own sense of style.  While I wasn’t exactly wearing tents and garbage bags, it just seemed like my maternity clothes weren’t “me”, and I was absolutely dying to get back into my regular clothes. By the way, why do maternity clothes come in such weird colors and patterns?  I swear that I actually found a skirt in...

Trader Joe’s Haul

Trader Joe’s Haul

This past Saturday morning, MT offered to stay home with Michael while I ran to Trader Joe’s.  This was an incredible blessing considering how Michael climbed into the back of the cart during our last trip and nearly scared the “you-know-what” out of me in the process. I was a woman on a mission and was in and out of the store in 15 minutes.  It would have been even faster, but I was chit-chatting with the friendly checkout person.  His best friend and college roommate apparently plays for the Carolina Panthers.  I...

Weekend recap (sunshine & shorts)

Weekend recap (sunshine & shorts)

The weather has been so gorgeous in Charlotte lately.  I actually had to dig out my maternity shorts and tanks! Because it has been so beautiful outside, I decided to unplug for a bit yesterday and just enjoy the day with Michael.  We met up with my friend Kirsten at Panera for an early lunch, played with the new ball that I bought for Michael, and colored pictures in his Sesame Street coloring book while sitting on the patio. It was so nice to just soak up the sun and enjoy spending quality time with my little guy without feeling the need...

Things I didn’t share Friday (3/7)

Things I didn’t share Friday (3/7)

  1.  Has anyone seen the new reality show called Southern Charm?  I am usually not a reality television kind of girl, but I’m already hooked on this one.  Admittedly, a large part of the obsession is due to the fact that I am crazy about all of the clothes- especially the ones that Cameran Eubanks wears.  I want to raid her closet so badly! 2.  I just needed to share this picture of my nieces Ava and Brianna.  Seriously, how cute are these girls?  I constantly want to kiss their sweet, happy, little faces! 3.  Last...

My all-time favorite natural beauty products

My all-time favorite natural beauty products

Over the course of The Grass Skirt’s 3-year existence, I’ve blogged a lot about beauty products that I love- especially ones that are on the more natural side.  While I’ve moved on from some of them (I suffer from beauty product ADD in a major way), there are some that have remained constant favorites.  In other words, I might possibly shed a few tears if any of these products were discontinued. Sadly, I am only half-kidding, (Please note: Some of these products are not 100% all natural.  To see how they rank as far as...

11 ways to save money when you have a baby or toddler

11 ways to save money when you have a baby or toddler

(Please note:  This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Well Beginnings.  However, all opinions stated below are my own.)   If you’re a parent, you know that having children is not cheap.  Those little suckers are expensive- though worth every penny and then some. Still, it’s always nice to save money, and it is definitely possible to give your child the very best things that you can without breaking the bank.  I have a few tips that I hope you find to be useful!   1.  Shop...

Grocery Haul (new finds!)

Grocery Haul (new finds!)

I did a bit of damage at the grocery store on Saturday morning after realizing that our fridge was almost completely barren. The items that you’ll see below are from Harris Teeter (our local chain) and Target, but you can expect to see a Trader Joe’s haul next week (which I might even film). I haven’t been there in ages, so I’m pretty excited. This haul was pretty fun too because I picked up a couple of new (to me) things. Here’s what I bought…     Organic whole milk (I always make sure that...
