What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW)

What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW)

Happy Wednesday! Well, it has taken me 3 1/2 years, but I am partaking in my very first What I Ate Wednesday today. Being that it is only mid-day, this is obviously what I ate yesterday, but you get the picture.   1.  For breakfast, I had a protein pancake topped with organic pure maple syrup, strawberries, and blueberries.  I also had some decaf coffee with almond milk and cinnamon and a huge glass of water with lemon. 2.  Lunch was a wrap on a whole grain tortilla and filled with grilled chicken, avocado, tomato, onion, and...

Lunch time check-in (delicious salmon recipe)

Lunch time check-in (delicious salmon recipe)

Happy Monday! I’m trying to eat my lunch at the moment, but I am shaking like a leaf because Michael (whose mattress is as low as it can possibly go) just fell out of his crib.   I heard a big thud from upstairs and found him flat on his back in front of his crib.  Because he didn’t cry, I was terrified, but as soon as he saw me, the tears came, and he was fine.  I think the whole ordeal just shook him up a bit, but it probably scared me more than it did him! I’m sure a gray hair just popped up on my head. Now about my...

Things I didn’t share Friday (8/8)

Things I didn’t share Friday (8/8)

Happy Friday! I had enough things in mind this week to include in my Friday Favorites, but I figured that I’d switch things up a bit and do a Things I Didn’t Share post just like old times (“old” meaning two months ago in this case).     1.  I had quite the scare yesterday afternoon when Michael started choking on a cracker.  He was gasping for air, and his face started to turn colors. The entire ordeal probably only lasted about 5 seconds, but it seemed like an eternity,  MT and I both took a CPR class...

My vitamin and supplement routine

My vitamin and supplement routine

Before I jump right into this post, I need to put up the usual disclaimer letting you know that the pretend Fisher Price doctor’s kit I owned as a child does not make me qualified to dish out medical advice.  However, the vitamins and supplements that I am about to discuss all work well for me.  If you are interested in taking any of them yourself, just run it by your physician first.   Since my medicine cabinet is overrun by lotions, creams, and other girly things, I keep all of my vitamins on my bathroom counter.  It is...

What I’ve been eating lately: Quick & easy wrap

What I’ve been eating lately: Quick & easy wrap

My sister Melissa is a teacher, and since the summer will be over before we know it, I’ve been trying to spend as much time with her as possible.  That means, play dates, TCBY, coffee at Starbucks, and lunch together at my house last week. I’ve been on a total wrap kick lately and knew that she would also enjoy this quick and easy lunch that I have been making basically every day for the past few weeks. All I do is fill one whole wheat tortilla with a MorningStar Farms Garden Veggie Patty, some romaine lettuce, sliced tomato,...

10 health and beauty benefits of almond oil

10 health and beauty benefits of almond oil

Last weekend, my friend Karen and I were raving about how much we love coconut oil (because that is what health obsessed people talk about, right?).  During our conversation, she asked for my thoughts on almond oil, and I thought that would make great material for a post. (Thanks for the inspiration, Karen!) I’ll get right down to it and let you know that I am definitely a fan of almond oil.  It has many amazing health and beauty benefits, and like coconut oil, it is extremely versatile and can be used externally or taken...

DIY: How to reuse your wine bottle corks

DIY: How to reuse your wine bottle corks

As many of you know, MT and I make a big dinner every Sunday night (usual steak or salmon), and we follow it up with wine, popcorn, and a movie. We have been doing this nearly every Sunday for the past 4 years, and it has become our little weekly tradition. Needless to say, we have gone through a lot of wine in the past 4 years. Several months ago, I started to keep the corks from all of our wine bottles (not just the ones consumed on Sundays), and I’d add them to a clear glass vase.  A few weeks after I started to do that, I...

Beauty Brand Spotlight: California Naturel

Beauty Brand Spotlight: California Naturel

(Please note: Although I did receive some products to sample, I was not paid to write this review.  All opinions below are my own true thoughts about California Naturel.)   Today’s beauty spotlight is on a brand called California Naturel. Based in Sausalito, California, California Naturel makes skin care products that are free of nasty ingredients.  All of their “formulations are naturally scented and free of: parabens, sulfates, and harsh synthetic chemicals”, which most of us surely appreciate. Of all the natural...
