Products I’ve used up lately & my thoughts on each one

Part of my decluttering/simplifying process involves using up things that I already own- especially when it comes to cosmetics and personal care products.

Admittedly, it was sort of difficult at first.

I wanted to try new lotions, thought I needed a new shade of lip gloss, and was positive that a different body wash would change my life.  But I forced myself to shop my existing arsenal of products and make use of what was in there, and now I am actually having fun with it.  It’s pretty satisfying to use things up, carry the empty bottles to the recycling bin, and magically watch the clutter slowly disappear without having to be wasteful along the way.

As you will see, I’ve made a lot of progress…and this is just the beginning!

 Products I've used up lately

derma e Very Clear Astringent

I bought this astringent before I discovered how well apple cider vinegar (ACV) works as a toner.  I didn’t love it, but I also didn’t hate it.  I just prefer ACV, so I will not be repurchasing this product.

GuruNanda Pulling Oil

As far as pulling oils go, this is my very favorite.  I like it even more for pulling than coconut oil!  You can read my full review here, but to sum it up, I think that this is the perfect pulling oil for beginners to use.

Urban Decay Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Naked

This was among my Friday Favorites in October, so I obviously really liked it. The color was really flattering, and even MT commented on how much he liked it on me!  Unfortunately, it isn’t very natural, so I won’t be repurchasing it. I’m hoping to find a good nontoxic dupe, so if you know of one, please let me know.

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil in Be Joyful & Be Spiritual

These made my 2014 All-Stars, so it is safe to assume that I will definitely repurchase them.  If you want silky skin, these are the body butters to use!

L’Oreal Paris Boost It Blow Out Heatspray

Even though I used this entire bottle, I really have no idea if it did anything or not.  Therefore, I will probably repurchase a different heat protector for my hair- most likely a natural one.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped

I actually loved this foundation so much.  It made my skin look and feel smooth and somehow managed to look even better as I went about my day. That being said, I won’t buy it again because of the chemicals.

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer

This product rates fairly well on the Sephora website, so there are plenty of people who like it.  However, I didn’t really think that it was anything spectacular, and as far as hydrating the under eyes, it didn’t do anything that my eye cream doesn’t do.

Raisin Face Skin Fix Xtreme

I’ve talked this product to death, so I will be short and sweet. I adore it, never want to be without it, and this was probably the 10th jar of it that I have used.

SeabuckWonders Facial Cream

This is a great product that I use on days when I don’t need a ton of extra hydration, and I will most likely repurchase it in the future (although right now, I am using a similar product by Sibu).

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Powder

I really like the concept of this powder, but I thought that it was kind of drying and cakey and will not buy it again.

Dior Creme De Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm

This lip balm gets so much love on YouTube and beauty blogs, so I was really eager to get it. Honestly, I was really disappointed and didn’t think it was anything special (especially for the price).  I won’t buy it again, and once I finish up the hundreds of lip balms that I already own, I’ll buy something more natural than this.

Juice Beauty Reflecting Gloss in Fig

This is a great gloss!  It is hard to describe, but it feels really cooling and light.  The color was gorgeous and actually quite similar to the one that I mentioned above by Urban Decay.

Andalou Naturals Age Defying Argan Stem Cells Shampoo & Conditioner

These also made my all-stars for 2014, and I am on my second bottle of each right now.  I definitely plan to continue using them to grow fuller hair.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara

This mascara underwhelms me…and it smudges.  I’ve since converted to one by 100% Pure and haven’t looked back!

Are you good about using up products that you have already, or are you tempted to buy new things?

  1. Great job, you used up lots! I used to struggle to finish anything, but I somehow caught the empties bug too:) I’m not sure what it is exactly, but there’s definitely something very satisfying about using a product right to the end!

    • Isn’t there? I find that I end up using a TON of product from each bottle though because I want to finish them. LOL. Do you do that too? 🙂

  2. Thanks for sharing! I agree about the Physician’s Formula mascara- it was SO smudgy on me too!

I love Juice Beauty products, but hadn’t tried the powder yet, so good to know!

I’ve been eyeing the Raison Face Skin Fix. I have combo skin; think it’d work well?

    • I think you’d still love it with combo skin, but I would test it out as a night cream first maybe. Also, don’t get the Xtreme. Stick with the regular one. If you try it, let me know what you think! 🙂

  3. I had no idea about using apple cider vinegar as a toner! My toner just ran out and I have some ACV on hand so I’m going to give it a shot.

  4. Ohhhhh I love product reviews! I’ve never heard of that raisin face brand but thank you for the introduction!

    • You’re welcome! It has been life changing for me since I have always dealt with extremely dry skin. And I love supporting small business owners. 🙂

  5. Ah I love ‘Empties’ posts!! It takes so long for me to get to the bottom of a bottle, but oh so satisfying when I do.
I was thinking of getting the Juice Beauty Powder, but now I think I’ll try something else instead – thanks for the info.
And I want to try the Andalou Natural shampoo & conditioner you mentioned, I use their hairspray and I like it!
