September 2016 Favorites
It feels like I just did one of these posts for August. September was kind of a blur with school and extracurricular activities starting up again, but I am really excited about October. My oldest baby turns four at the end of the month!
Aside from the fact that the weather finally started to cool off a degree or two, here are some of the things that I loved during the month of September.
I already wrote about these in my post on 3 nontoxic ways to instantly make your home smell like fall, but they are such a favorite that they are worth mentioning again. If you love buying fall room sprays and even scented candles but are concerned about toxins, you’ll really appreciate this fall bundle. Fingers crossed that she makes one for the holidays too!
I apply a few spritzes of this to my face morning and night with a cotton pad to keep my skin calm and balanced. I really look forward to this step in my skincare routine because the spray feels so nice and refreshing. It has also been helpful with fading some red marks on my face (pale skin shows everything!) and is really supposed to be effective for those who suffer from rosacea. The Aleavia brand in general is a huge favorite, and I am going to feature them on the blog next week.
I’ve had lots of success with the Kypris Antioxidant Dew but wanted to find a cheaper option. Through a bit of online research, I stumbled on the Skin Owl Beauty Drops, and I am hooked. The product (which is ideal for sensitive skin) is meant to be used in place of a moisturizer, and since it is heavier than Antioxidant Dew, I think it will be perfect for the fall/winter months. I’ll probably use Antioxidant Dew during the spring/summer. If you have any redness, acne, or even bruises or sunburn, the Beauty Drops assist with faster healing. Just a drop or two is all you need!
This serum is a staple in my hair care routine. Even though my hair is fine, it doesn’t get weighed down when I use the product, but I do have to say that I use it very sparingly. It absolutely delivers a beautiful shine and tames frizz (which was definitely an issue for me over the summer).
After much searching, I finally found these in the Halloween candy aisle of CVS (of all places). Let me just say, they were well worth the hunt. They do taste like pumpkin (although if I am being honest, I still prefer my mom’s homemade pumpkin pie), and they are the perfect snack for this time of the year. As you know, I tend to hoard things when I am afraid that I won’t find them again, so I just purchased an entire case off the Larabar website. If you’ve never ordered from there before, use the coupon code WELCOME10 to save 10% off your order!
Ever heard of maple water? I’ve been drinking it lately as a replacement to coconut water because it just seems more fall-ish. That isn’t the only reason though. Maple water, while slightly sweet, has half the amount of sugar as coconut water. It is also a good source of manganese, calcium, iron, antioxidants, prebiotics, electrolytes, and can even help to balance blood sugar. I’ve actually been using it in my pumpkin smoothies lately, and it adds a really subtle maple flavor.
If you were a Breaking Bad fan, you need to watch Better Call Saul. It centers around the character of Saul Goodman and shows you how he became a crooked lawyer. Mike, one of my favorite characters from Breaking Bad, is also in it! Breaking Bad tended to be dark, heavy, and at times, totally depressing, but Better Call Saul is actually pretty funny and much lighter (though not exactly what you’d call a slapstick comedy). The third season starts up in 2017, so you have time to binge watch it before then.
My thoughts go out to anyone who is affected by the hurricane. Please be safe!
