Updated list of safer beauty brands & where to shop for them

Please see this post from October 2015 for an updated list!

Back in November, I promised frequent updates to my list of non-toxic beauty brands, and that is what I am delivering today.

The new (and improved!) list is still available as a free PDF (see the link below), but now it also includes links to each company’s official website and several nail polish brands as well.

I hope that you like the changes and find the document to be a helpful tool.

While you can obviously shop all of these brands on their websites, sometimes you have to shop around to find better deals.

Where to shop for non-toxic beauty brands

These are some of my favorite places to shop for beauty products online:

The Choosy Chick

This is an excellent resource because all of the products that are sold through the site have been researched and sampled.  From the site’s “About” section: “We provide our customers a ‘one stop shop’ with safe and effective beauty products. We’re dedicated to educating consumers about this vastly unregulated industry and the harmful ingredients in many personal care products saturating the marketplace today.”

Pharmaca

When you enter the website, you’ll have the option to join their email list.  If you sign up, you’ll receive 30% off your first order.  Some of the brands that you’ll find there are Juice Beauty, Dr. Hauschka, ACURE, and Jane Iredale.   And it isn’t just a beauty site!  You can also order vitamins, supplements, personal care products, and more.

Vitacost

You’ve heard me talk about Vitacost a million and one times (I am an affiliate), so I won’t get into too much detail.  Like Pharmaca, you can find a wide assortment of products, and the prices are really reasonable and oftentimes cheaper than what you can find anywhere else.   My orders always arrive within two days too which is perfect for anyone who as impatient as I am about waiting for orders.

Amazon

I am sure that you’re already well aware of the awesomeness that is Amazon.  You can seriously find pretty much anything on there, the prices are right, and if you have Amazon Prime, your orders will arrive as soon as you hit the “checkout” button…which is truly just a slight exaggeration.

iHerb.com

iHerb is basically an online health food store- which can be dangerous if you’re a fellow health nut.  I mean, you can shop for chia seeds in your pajamas.  What could be better?  OK, lots of things are better, but it certainly is convenient to get my health food store fix without always having to haul my booty all of the way to Whole Foods.

etsy

Believe it or not, you can find a lot of high quality makeup and skin care on etsy.  In fact, that is where I purchase my beloved Raisin Face cream!  If you’re looking for recommendations, I’ve heard glowing reviews about Pumpkin & Poppy, Brija Cosmetics, and Addictive Cosmetics.

If you know of any other brands that should be on this list, please let me know!  I love reading your recommendations.

Have a great day!

  1. Thanks so much for sharing – love these posts and have certainly looked into changing it up for my health and wellness 🙂 I recently bought Kiss My Face deodorant at Natural Grocers and love it so far – no redness, itchiness, burning, etc. I read labels for the food I eat and now read the labels for the products I use for myself and my home.

    Happy Day!

  2. I’d like to humbly submit my own eyeshadow brand, Printcess. It’s cruelty-free, vegan-friendly (no animal products, including carmine or pearl powder) and free of FD&C dyes, irritants (like talc), and other known potentially toxic substances. I list ingredients used for every color, so consumers can make an informed decision- because beauty should be skin-friendly and soul-friendly. 🙂
It’s small, still, and sold on my website: http://printcess.net and on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrintcessMakeup

    • Oh, it sounds WONDERFUL, Beth!!! I will absolutely include it in my next update. Thank you for commenting and for offering another non-toxic makeup option! 🙂
