Walk for Lupus Now

Hi, everyone!

I definitely plan to do a follow-up post on my pregnancy announcement soon (thank you so much for all of your sweet comments and tweets), but today I want to focus on another subject that is very important to me.

As you may or may not know, I was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue (source), during the first semester of my freshman year in college.  While it was definitely a difficult time, I consider myself to be very fortunate since I am able to manage my symptoms through a healthy lifestyle.

Unfortunately though, most people living with Lupus are not so lucky, and they spend each minute of their daily lives in extreme pain.

Thankfully, The Lupus Foundation of America, an incredible organization that I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with in the past, is constantly working to help raise awareness of this disease and offer support to the many patients and families who are affected by it.

Each year, the Foundation holds their Walk for Lupus Now to raise funds that go towards research and finding a cure.  If you’ve never participated, I can tell you that it is an incredible event.  It is so touching to see all of the adults and children coming together for one common cause.

Cupcrazed, a local cupcake business who has appeared on Cupcake Wars (and won!), is not only participating on walk day but they are also offering a gift basket which includes a Kindle Fire, a $50 Amazon gift card, a Cupcrazed shirt and a Walk For Lupus shirt. For every ten dollars donated, your name is entered for a drawing for the prize pack (thanks to Tricia for that info!).

The great part is that anyone can enter since the prizes can be shipped nationally.  All you have to do is donate here.

For those of you who live in the Charlotte area, I hope you’ll join me on May 5th at Symphony Park for the Walk.  If you don’t live in the Charlotte area, you can locate a walk near you here.

This is truly a special organization, and I am confident that they will help lead us to a cure someday.
