What I’m eating lately & 23 week bump update

You may recall my pregnancy announcement where I listed a lot of my food cravings.

There was definitely a period of time when all I wanted was junk, and vegetables were the enemy. I hardly recognized myself!

But lately, I am mostly back to my normal ways, and I’ve been pumping my body (and my growing baby) with healthier foods.

But before my hubby calls me out on the brownies, cookies, and ice cream I’ve also been eating, I’ll admit that I am not perfect these days (and never was) when it comes to eating.

As my favorite Duck Dynasty star Si might say if he was in my shoes, “I’m going to give it to you straight, Jack… this was my dinner one night last week.”

That’s right- you’re looking at French toast with whipped cream, scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and a chocolate chip cookie on the side.

I almost didn’t post this picture because well… this meal wasn’t even remotely healthy!  I had a really specific craving though, and as long as I am not giving into my cravings at each meal, I think I am completely entitled to give into them every now and then.

I’ve really been trying to eat a lot of healthy fats, such as olives, coconut oil, olive oil, salmon, and avocado (brain food for the baby!), and I make sure that I’m meeting my required daily allowance as far as protein, fruits, and veggies.

Even though I didn’t do so when I ate the French toast dinner, I have also been more mindful of eating foods that do not aggravate my dairy intolerance.

I want my body and my baby to be strong and healthy, and I must be doing something right…

Check out my bump!

As Michael commented yesterday, there’s definitely something in there.

By the way, Baby Turner is still sucking up all of my brain power.

For instance, I was supposed to meet my friend Kirsten for lunch yesterday at Jason’s Deli.  She sent me a text sometime in the morning to say that she wasn’t feeling great.  For some reason, my flighty mind thought that she asked if we could meet tomorrow instead.  I felt horrible when she texted me to ask if I was on my way…and I was sitting at home eating Subway!

Speaking of Subway,   the woman behind the counter said, “You’re the woman with the husband who comes in here all of the time because you have sandwich cravings, aren’t you?” when I placed my order.

I was sort of embarrassed, but I owned up to it.  After all, who can resist that sweet onion sauce?   It’s the best!  I need to figure out how to recreate it at home.

Have you ever tried Subway’s sweet onion sauce?  If not, you must!  It is highly addictive and mighty tasty.

Do you watch Duck Dynasty? I swear, I cannot get enough of it.  Si and Jase are my favorites.  They always manage to crack me up.

Have a wonderful day!

It’s ok, I still love you! I just can’t wait to see, in person, how cute you look pregnant!

    • I felt so badly about it all night. It was probably the dumbest thing I’ve done with this pregnancy brain so far! Can’t wait to see you too! I promise to show up next time. 🙂

  2. Aww you really do look bigger! SO cute 🙂

  3. Hi!

I came over from the SITS website. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Good luck with the remaining months and your food cravings :0)

  4. You look so darn cute! Please don’t be ashamed of your “unhealthy” dinner. I had blueberry pancakes for dinner last night….and I’m not pregnant! The Subway thing is too funny though!

  5. You look beautiful and glowing more then ever! Its ok to cave in now and then to cravings – I do the same thing and feel a little guilty while doing it but I have to remind myself all the time that its ok, its not the end of my healthy eating…

My honey and I LOVE Duck Dynasty and Si is our favorite too! haha – he is hilarious. 🙂

    How’s the little pup doing?

  6. Your growing a baby, so eat what you crave! Loving the bump:) Have a Great Day!

  7. I think you’re eating very well – when I was pregnant both times, I ate a lot of junk! (the babies turned out fine though)

    You’re all cute baby bump!

    Stopping by from SITS Sharefest.

  8. Hahaha….I’m between 22-23 weeks and have had sandwich cravings since my 1st month!! For some reason I have to eat a lot of carbs with every meal, or I just don’t feel right!! I have only eaten subway once or twice in my life before I got pregnant and now I’ve had 1 a week (sometimes more!) and I always go for the turkey on 6inch on 9 grain bread with sweet onion sauce! and loads of pickles and salad!! haha glad I’m not the only one!! My eating is getting better now and so are my gym workouts so I am hoping my weight gain will remain steady from now on…I’ve already put on 15lbs…which is above the average weight gain for my week…but I think think this was because my body is just not used to so many carbs (and I had no morning sickness, just sandwich cravings the first 3 months!)hahaha you are an inspiration to me! your recipes look amazing!

    • Congrats on your pregnancy! What is it about that sweet onion sauce? My location charges extra for it now. If they had done that while I was pregnant, I would have spent a fortune! LOL.
