What’s in a name?

Hello there!

I hate to break it to you, but if you’re looking for instructions on how to make a grass skirt or ideas for throwing your own luau. you’ve come to the wrong place.

(Those are actually some real Google searches that have lead people to this blog.)

Around these parts, “The Grass Skirt” actually refers to a smoothie that I started making awhile back.

One day, I made one of these concoctions and was going on and on about how much it tasted like a pina colada.  Out of curiosity, my husband MT took a sip- which was surprising given the fact that it was both green and healthy.  But not only did MT love it, he agreed that it tasted like a tropical drink.

From that point forward, he referred to the smoothie as “The Grass Skirt”.

I instantly loved the name because I’m in love with all things Hawaiian.

My husband is a creative genius.

Here’s how you can make the smoothie for yourself…

For an extra dose of coconut, I recommend adding about 1/2 a cup of coconut water to the mix!

You’ll soon come to learn that I’m a bit smoothie-obsessed, but this smoothie is definitely one of my very favorites.

If you make one or have any fun variations, I’d love to hear about them!

I am allergic to bananas, and that is always the hardest part of green smoothies – they’re no the same without banana! Could you recommend a substitute for the banana in the Grass Skirt smoothie? I’d love to add it to my smoothie repertoire. Great blog!! 🙂 -Clare

    • Thank you, Clare! You definitely don’t need the banana to make the smoothie. I’d add a bit more pineapple or some more mango in place of the banana, and it should taste every bit as delicious! 🙂
